Maya’s Headshots!

I once again got the chance to work with the fabulous Maya Morales on getting her some updated headshots. She and I had worked together previously on her original set of headshots and since she has been working so much her agent told her she needed new ones! And once again they came out spectacular. Maya is great to work with, always providing a fun session and working the camera in a way only actors know how.

Enjoy.

Jordan and Troy 7/27/13

Introducing the beautiful Jordan and Troy, one of the most fun couples I have ever shot. I was shooting alongside the amazing Cherie Starke of Cherie Starke Photography. We had the chance to once again shoot at the LDS Temple in Santa Monica. Such an absolutely beautiful location. Just take a look!

Silvana

Recently I had the chance to work with Silvana on creating new images to help her for promotional purposes. We chose to work in the city of Silverlake right off of Sunset Blvd, near the historic Sunset Strip area.  The location provided us diverse backgrounds and styles so that we could create a more urban and edgy look to her images. We wanted to avoid the standard, portrait style and focus on a little more towards a slightly more editorial look. Her outfits represent the LA summer lifestyle, providing simple contrasts to the bright colors and artwork that dot the cityscape.

These images were all shot natural light, with no reflector, diffusers, or light modifiers of any kind. When shooting sessions like this I try to pack light, and stay as mobile as possible so that we can cover a variety of locations over the course of an hour session.

Take a look at what we came up with!

A Preview of Sue and Steve 7/22/13

Last month, I once again got the chance to shoot alongside the amazing Cherie Stark from Cherie Stark Photography on Sue and Steve’s wedding in Long Beach, California. Cherie is always a blast to work with and she always brings me along to some awesome wedding locations. This time the ceremony and reception took place at the Reef Restaurant, right next to the Queen Mary. And while we couldn’t get to the ship itself, it provided a fantastic backdrop for our images!

Sue and Steve had an intimate ceremony overlooking the water followed by a reception filled with great food, cake, and even some Zumba thrown in!

Here is a preview of some of their images…

Maya

Congrats to Maya on celebrating her Bat Mitzvah! This little girl is et to celebrate her milestone in August and is really excited to share this special moment with her family and friends. She and her mom asked me to photograph her before the party so she can have some images for a sign-in book. I was really looking forward to getting back and shooting at Eaton Canyon Nature Preserve in Altadena and using my Canon 6D on its first ever portrait outing. I had bought it specifically for my European adventure, but realized that it was the perfect camera for portraits. Light, easy to one hand shoot, and still very capable compared to my hulking 5D Mark III. So I hitched my 50mm 1.2L to the 6D and off we went for a quick outdoor session!

Maya was fantastic to work with, with a perfect smile and bubbly personality. I can’t wait to celebrate her big day! Congrats Maya!

Heather and Brad

A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to shoot my first ever beach wedding alongside Michelle Lacson Photography. Heather and Brad were an amazingly fun couple with an absolutely beautiful wedding and reception. The ceremony took place in Laguna Beach while the reception was held at The Hills Hotel a little further inland. The details were absolutely phenomenal, just take a look for yourself!

Overall it was a great event, and one that sets the bar pretty high for all of my future beach weddings.

Promotional Shots with Olivia

These shots are a preview of some promotional work I just completed for Olivia Dawn York for an upcoming movie. Olivia and I have worked together in the past and she is always a blast. While this movie is still in its pre-production phase, we wanted to get these done as soon as possible. The movie centers around a young woman who is caught between her desire to become a lawyer and the delicate world of prostitution (just in case you were wondering!). And while these aren’t the final production shots (those are saved for the movie’s website) this gives a good indication of how our shots turned out! Thank you Olivia for being a blast to work with as usual!

Some of my photographer friends!!

I am blessed that every day I get to do what I love. But being a photographer can sometimes feel like a competition. You’re trying to get the best clients, the most exposure for your images, and the latest and greatest gear. It can feel overwhelming at times, forcing many photographers to bow out of this vicious cycle early on. But those who remain share a connection with each other. We all know what it’s like to be criticized for our images, the pain of a rejection email, and the sinking feeling of leaving a session with less than fabulous images. But we also know what it’s like to score that incredible client, or to create that breathtaking image. It’s an up and down battle we face every day.

And there are some amazing photographers who I am lucky to call my friends.

I recently had the chance to photograph some of them for some new website images.

Each has a different style and a different vision but I highly recommend checking them out 🙂
